Get ready for Impact! - The M4 has arrived
Bursting onto the scene this August the FX Impact M4 is sure to be in demand as the latest incarnation of FX Airguns flagship rifle. Here we take a look at the hotly anticipated new model.
Many consider the Impact as the peak of Airgun design, being synonymous with air rifle innovation since its introduction in 2015. Throughout the years, this model has undergone several enhancements and the addition of new features, expanding its capabilities in power, accuracy, and tunability.
So where have FX gone with the M4?
Following on from the iconic M3 model, FX have looked to enhance, advance and upgrade with this model, starting with the internals. Replacing the standard AMP MKII piston is a new brass piston that gives the M4 faster refresh rates, enhanced consistency and allows the gun to work at higher pressures (Max 170 BAR). In conjunction with the uprated regulator, FAC users get an enlarged 750 (75cc) plenum that pushes the guns maximum power up to 156 ft/lb in .35 cal.
To harness the guns enhance performance and increase shot counts the M4 continues to make use of the innovative dual regulator system. The first regulator reduces air pressure before it reaches the second regulator, resulting in reduced stress on the second regulator and achieving a more consistent output with fewer deviations. This smart solution increases the shot count of the M4 to 500 shots per fill in .22 and 475 shots per fill in .177 (12ft/LB models)
In synergy with the dual regulators the M4 continues to employ FX’s acclaimed Quick tune System. This essentially tool-free system encompasses everything a shooter needs to fine tune their rifle’s accuracy, allowing unlimited possibilities. Shooters can adjust the air pressure the rifle is using via the dual regulators, how long the valve stays open with the front valve adjuster, and then they can adjust the strength of the hammer with the micro and macro power adjustments. This advanced system allows users to control performance to within just 1-2 fps.
Quick Set Trigger
Moving on from the power source to the controls the M4 has been furnished with possibly the best trigger ever fitted to an air rifle. Out goes the old trigger and in comes the all new FX Quick Set Trigger, a unit built to meet the demands of both the hunter and the competitor. Designed for both match and hunting use the new trigger system allows users to quickly adjust trigger weights at the turn of a screw. Now the end user can adjust from a standard pull, to a light clean and super crisp break at a moment’s notice and as their situation or discipline dictates.
Moving back from the trigger, the first thing you will notice when picking up the M4 is the new contoured UG1 Grip, the ergonomic grip features an enhanced palm swell and defined surfaces for both comfort and control. This makes the M4 one of the most comfortable guns you will ever shoot.
In terms of usability the M4 sees FX move with the times, addressing FAC users need for increasingly heavier ammunition, the Swedish company have opted to redesign the high-capacity magazine to faultlessly cycle both standard ammunition and the new generation of heavy slugs.
Another area where FX have uprated the Impact is in the optic mounting system, to take advantage of modern optics and different levels of eye relief the M4 incorporates a 30 MOA extended picatinny rail that can be slid up and down the top plate for greater flexibility. And for those using dovetail mounts the Impacts top plate has been widened and machined to include a built-in dovetail that adds stability and rigidity whilst giving the user greater flexibility when mounting optics.
The FX Impact is firmly seen as the greatest airgun made. The proof is undeniable.
